What Veneers Can Do For You

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain bonded to the front of teeth. Traditional crowns require shaving down the tooth structure, which can permanently alter teeth. Veneers offer a much more conservative approach, requiring minimal preparation of the tooth before application.

Veneers are also a popular choice because of their versatility in treating dental imperfections:

  • Chips or cracks: Teeth can be chipped or cracked by minor accidents or everyday wear and tear. Veneers can cover up these flaws seamlessly to restore your smile's natural look and strength.
  • Discoloration: Stubborn stains from coffee, tea, or medication can be difficult to fully remove with whitening, meaning you may never achieve the level of brightness you want. Veneers are resistant to stains, keeping your smile consistently bright and beautiful.
  • Uneven spacing or misalignment: Minor gaps or misalignment can be easily corrected with veneers for a balanced and uniform smile.
  • Worn-down teeth: Teeth can become worn down over time due to grinding or everyday use. Veneers can restore their original size and shape to improve bite function and aesthetics.
  • Reshaping teeth: Veneers offer the flexibility to reshape your teeth if you're self-conscious about sharp or misshapen teeth.

Choosing Your Perfect Fit

Dr. Klein offers two primary types of veneers: porcelain and composite. While they may sound similar, they achieve very different results and are suitable for other issues.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain is an incredibly durable, strong, and stain-resistant material. These characteristics make it ideal for patients hoping to achieve long-lasting cosmetic improvements. It offers a natural, translucent appearance that flawlessly blends with surrounding teeth.

Composite Veneers

These are often called chairside veneers because Dr. Klein and his team are able to complete the treatment in a single appointment. We apply a thin layer of composite resin to the tooth and sculpt it to disguise small gaps, cracks, or mild discoloration. The composite material is color-matched to your teeth for natural results. This option offers a more cost-effective solution but is not as durable as porcelain and will need to be replaced every 3 to 7 years.

Your Journey to a Transformed Smile

Initial Consultation

We'll begin with a comprehensive consultation where Dr. Klein will discuss your smile goals and assess your dental health to determine if veneers are right for you. We welcome you to ask Dr. Klein or our friendly team any questions you may have so you feel confident and comfortable with the process.

Preparation

We will then prepare your teeth for veneers during your follow-up appointment. This typically involves removing a small amount of enamel to ensure proper bonding of the veneers. We'll apply a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable.

Impressions and Temporary Veneers

Our team will take digital impressions of your teeth to create your custom-made veneers. We can then decide which enamel shade to choose to achieve a smile you love. In the meantime, temporary veneers can be placed to protect your prepared teeth and allow you to maintain a natural appearance.

Veneer Placement

In a few days or weeks (depending on the lab's capacity), it will be time to fit your veneers! We will then carefully bond them to your teeth to ensure a secure and natural-looking fit and adjust them for optimal comfort.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my veneers look natural?

We believe the best veneers are the ones no one knows you have. We don't take a one-size-fits-all approach when you visit us for veneers. Instead, we meticulously design your veneers to complement your unique facial features, skin tone, and smile width, ensuring your smile looks radiant.

Do veneers hurt?

During the preparation and fitting, we use local anesthesia to numb the area where we’ll be working. Once the numbness wears off, it’s normal to feel some mild sensitivity to hot or cold for a few days as your teeth settle. However, once bonded, your veneers should feel completely natural and pain-free.

How long do veneers last?

With the right care, your veneers can last 15 to 20 years, sometimes more. Ultimately, their longevity will depend on your lifestyle.

Do they require any special care?

Surprisingly little! You can brush and floss your veneers just like your natural teeth. The main adjustment is behavioral: while veneers are strong, we recommend avoiding using your teeth as "tools" (like opening packages) or biting directly into very hard foods to prevent chipping.

Is this procedure reversible?

Because we remove a micro-layer of enamel to secure your veneers and make sure they don’t look bulky, this procedure is generally considered irreversible. If a veneer were to come off, your tooth would need to be covered again. This is why we spend so much time in the planning phase to ensure you are 100% ready.

Can I choose how white I want them?

Absolutely. We have a full spectrum of shades. While some of our patients want a Hollywood Bleach white, others prefer a natural bright to match the whites of their eyes. If you’re unsure about what you want, don’t worry. Dr. Klein can guide you to which shade best complements your skin tone.

Can veneers stain like my natural teeth?

No. Porcelain is non-porous, glass-like, and highly resistant to stains from coffee, wine, or smoking. This is exactly why we’ve chosen this material to create veneers.
